THE IMPORTANT ANCIENT FAMILIES
: De Ghislanzoni
|
It is commonly held that this family,
amongst the most illustrious of the
Oltrepò, is of the same stock as the
Gislanzoni of Venice, having been
originally part of the nobility of Crema.
These Gislanzoni, or Ghislanzoni,
claimed descent from a Milanese family
holding the title of counts of Barco.
The tomb of the above family can be see
in the church of San Salvatore, or of
the Holy Apostles, in Venice, and the
Barons De Gislanzoni living in the
Oltrepò Pavese uphold their Venetian
origin. Traditionally connected to the
historical village of Montebello della
Battaglia, the De Ghislanzoni never miss
the celebrations in remembrance of the
fight of 20 May 1859, and actively
participate in other cultural events
held at Montebello or other places of
the Oltrepò |
